January 2nd, 2012: EBAM - EBAM |
For one or another reason, January the 2nd isn't the best day to fly. It's winter for sure, but where are the days with clear skies and great visibility? It's the third year in a row with some challenging weather. But we had to keep the tradition alive and here we're doing the run up, holding short RWY29. |
Directly heading North as moving East or West would be to risky as the weather could change rapidly. Showers were forecasted and we were keeping a sharp lookout for rain activity. With a tailwind of a solid 40km/h we had a more than accetable groundspeed at only 3900rpm. Fuelburn for distance covered was better than a Prius! |
We gained some confidence about the weather conditions and moved to the West enjoying some great views flying at 2000ft. this also happened to be the cloudbase. Very few traffic today. From this point you can see the coastline and we are 50km away! |
Time to head back South to our homebase. As it's 14.00 zulu right now the sun makes things pretty difficult, even with our high contrast shades and tinted canopy. So we seek shelter and get ourselves covered again deep down under the clouds boosting our visual range. We crossed some traffic and could keep a safe distance. |
We added this picture because aviators know that on these kind of days, when you're up there, the skies are beautiful!
It's like being part of an endless painting... |
