January 2nd, 2011: EBAM - EBAM |
Belgian weather grounded us for weeks and this Sunday there was nothing that would prevent us from flying. Ofcourse weather was again not favorable but at least we had good visibility. Still the skies didn't look as they were really inviting us but surprisingly we were not alone on the radio, on the contrary. |
Less than 5 minutes after take-off we were back safe on the ground. The picture explains.... it was pretty obvious that this afternoon navigation flights would not be a good idea. A little 20 minutes later we were again airborne for a local flight heading to Ghent. |
On our way back we saw a wide spot without overcast and decided to have a closer look and to find out the actual altitude of the cloudbase. This local spot could be found overhead Kortrijk.
The air was super smooth and our VL-3 did 250km/h IAS. |
Climbing from 1500ft to 3500ft did bring us closer to the cloudbase but it was obvious that going to our max allowed altitude of 4500ft we would not manage to get on top of the clouds, so no spectacular pictures this time. |
Back on the apron at Amougies. Today we were flying in what you could call a threatening environment, at least that's how it looked like. The winds coming from the North-West made the air as smooth as silk and made the ride a real joy. So when there is a day without blue skies, don't panic, it doesn't mean you can't have a wonderful flight. And looking again at the picture, it's pretty straight forward that the VL-3 can't wait to be airborne again! This aircraft is designed to fly! |
