January 2nd, 2010: EBAM - EBOS - EBAM |
It was saturday, the second day of 2010 and the first day for some long time the weather was flyable on a weekend. We took off heading to EBSG (Saint Ghislain) but decided to turn to the West because of the marginal visibility. We are passing the ski slope Snow Mountain located in Komen next to the French border on our way to the coast. |
Oostende Approach guided us in, we were number 2 just behind a UK GA aircraft. We were following the coastline from Koksijde to a righthand circuit for RWY 26. Some active clouds with snow were active and the landing was pretty firm. A quick check of the landing gear reassured us how strong the landing gear of the VL-3 is.
At Oostende, the service is great. We are picked up by car and brought to the C building. After settling the € 25 landing fee (incl. VAT) we decided to visit the meteo service on the 2nd floor.
We were advised to wait for the snow activity to go by. |
At 15.30LT we are cleared for take-off for VFR flight to EBAM.
The clouds are heading north while we had to go south so we were clear of any surprises. We had wiped of all the melting snow we found on the wings and tailplane when we got back to the apron earlier.
Here she is, waiting at Apron 3 at EBOS for the snow activity to go by. The OO-G05 was immediately recognized by the Ostend staff.
Afterall, she's the first VL-3 in Benelux and even France, except for the demonstrator of JMB aviation, the distributor.
The endless beauty of this machine has been the work of the design team from Czech based Vanessa Air. |
